All-Stars

The Little League International Tournament is the most widely known youth sports tournament in the world.  The tournaments start at the District level, and teams must win their way to advance through the International Tournament.  The 8- to 10-Year-Old and 9- to 11-Year-Old Tournaments culminate at the State Level, while the Little League ("Majors"), Intermediate (50/70) Baseball, Junior League, and Senior League divisions all conclude at a World Series Tournament.

Player Eligibility

For a player to be eligible for participation on an All-Star tournament team representing Lake Norman Little League, the player must meet the following requirements:

(1) Reside or attend a school located inside the league’s boundary, or have a valid II(d) or IV(h) waiver in place;
(2) Register and participate in the "Grapefruit" Baseball Division or above, or the "Rookies" Softball Division or above;
(3) Participate in at least 60% of the regular season games by the start of tournament play; and
(4) Choose to be included in the pool of players for All-Star consideration, understanding the time commitment required.

Participants in the "Cactus" Baseball Division will have an opportunity to be chosen as All-Stars for a special divisional All-Star event at the conclusion of the Spring season.  Participants in this division are not eligible for selection to the tournament teams competing in district play.

Parent / Player Commitment Requirement

It’s important for parents to be reminded that participating in Tournament Play is a choice, and that while it is a privilege to play, it is also a commitment with added practices and games.  All-Star practices begin immediately following regular season championships and often occur daily leading up to tournament play.  Missing a few practices and even a game does not necessarily prevent selection to an All-Star team; however missing an entire week takes an opportunity away from another player who could commit to preparing with the team.  If you realize that your son or daughter has several conflicts, it may be a wise decision to pass on a tournament selection, and allow another Little Leaguer to share in the experience.

Selection of All-Star Players & Coaches

To promote a fair selection of players for All-Star tournament teams, eligible players may be nominated by coaches, players and league officials from within their division to be considered for All-Stars. All-Star nominees are then voted on by coaches and board officials. The board decides if teams can be formed from these results or if tryouts for any specific All-Star team is necessary.

The league's Coaches Committee nominates coaches from the eligible divisions of play to be on the league's All-Star coaching staffs. Final approval of each volunteer is made by the League President.

All-Star tournament teams may consist of 12-14 players, one manager (head coach), and two assistant coaches.  Senior League teams may consist of up to the maximum of 16 players.

Mandatory Play

If a tournament team has 13 or more eligible players in uniform at a game, then every player will participate in each game for a minimum of one at-bat. If a tournament team has 12 or fewer players in uniform at a game, then every player will participate in each game for a minimum of six consecutive defensive outs and bat at least one time. There are no mandatory play requirements at the Senior League level.

District Tournament of Champions (TOC's)

The District TOC is considered a “special games” tournament for our local district only with no advancement.   The tournament begins the second Saturday of June and concludes by the following Friday.  The tournament consists of 3-4 pool-play games followed by a single elimination championship bracket for the top four teams.  Teams play one game per day unless weather delays result in the necessity to schedule multiple games on a given day.  Game schedules and locations are set by Little League district officials.  Weekend games are scheduled throughout the day and into the evening.  Weekday games are scheduled in the evening (6 pm and 8 pm start times).
