All-Stars

The Little League International Tournament is the most widely known youth sports tournament in the world. There are six levels of tournament play in Little League Baseball® and five within Little League Softball®, with opportunities for players ages 8 to 16. The tournaments start at the District level, and teams must win their way to advance through the International Tournament. The 8- to 10-Year-Old and 9- to 11-Year-Old Tournaments culminate at the State Level, while the Little League, Little League Intermediate (50/70) Baseball, Junior League, and Senior League divisions all conclude at a World Series Tournament.

Note:  Participants in Lake Norman Little League's Cactus Baseball Division will have an opportunity to be chosen as All-Stars for a special Cactus Division All-Star event at the conclusion of the Spring season.  Participants in this division are not eligible for selection to the District All-Star tournament teams.

Commitment Requirement

It’s important for parents to be reminded that participating in All-Star tournament play is a choice should your child be selected.  While it is a privilege to play, it is also a commitment with added practices and games.  Practices begin immediately following regular season championships and often occur daily leading up to tournament play. Missing a few practices and even a game does not necessarily prevent selection to an All-Star team; however missing an entire week takes an opportunity away from another player who could commit to preparing with the team.  If you realize that your child has several conflicts during the All-Star tournament schedules, it may be a wise decision to pass on a tournament selection.

Selection of All-Star Players & Coaches

All-Star Player Selections:
To promote a fair selection of players for All-Star tournament teams, eligible players may be nominated by coaches, players and league officials from within their division to be considered for All-Stars. All-Star nominees are then voted on by coaches and league officials. The board decides if teams can be formed from these results or if tryouts for any specific All-Star team is necessary.

All-Star Coach Selections:
The Coaches Committee nominates coaches from the eligible divisions of play to be on the league's All-Star coaching staffs. Final approval of each volunteer is made by the League President.

All-Star Team Rosters:
All-Star tournament teams may consist of 12-14 players, one manager (head coach), and two assistant coaches.  Senior League teams may consist of up to the maximum of 16 players.

Mandatory Play

If a tournament team has 13 or more eligible players in uniform at a game, then every player will participate in each game for a minimum of one at-bat. If a tournament team has 12 or fewer players in uniform at a game, then every player will participate in each game for a minimum of six consecutive defensive outs and bat at least one time. There are no mandatory play requirements at the Senior League level.
