Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update...

Lake Norman Little League Suspends Play Until May 11, 2020

This is much bigger than Little League®.

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is rapidly changing the way that we, as global citizens, think, act, gather, learn, and live our daily lives. And, yes, that also means how we play Little League.

With the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and at the recommendation of Little League International, the Board of Lake Norman Little League is exercising an abundance of caution and extending our temporary suspension/delay of all league activities through no earlier than May 11, 2020. Our league leadership is now preparing to resume activities on May 11 and will be adjusting game and practice schedules accordingly. We will continue to monitor the situation and notify you promptly of any changes.

How was May 11 chosen for resuming Little League activities?
Following the latest recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to refrain from gatherings for at least eight weeks, the leadership at Little League International chose May 11 to coincide with that guidance.

What if my school or municipality is suspending activities past May 11?
Little League International strongly advises that local programs follow the guidance of their local authorities, evaluating school district closures, and local health department recommendations before resuming season play. Little League will be considerate of the missed game play opportunities as an interim policy is established for tournament eligibility for the 2020 tournament season. It is our hope to alleviate any concerns of the impact of the situation on the tournament season and that Lake Norman Little League and our families can focus on the health and well-being of our community at this time.

What changes are expected for the spring schedule?
Scheduling changes are contingent upon modified season requirements established by Little League International which have yet to be announced. Lake Norman Little League’s intentions are for all divisions to be scheduled for the number of games planned prior to this pandemic if possible. We want our players to play ball! Depending upon modified season requirements, the following scheduling actions may be required to complete the spring 2020 schedule:

- Game days may be modified to play shortened double-headers.
- Games may be scheduled Memorial Day weekend.
- Games may be scheduled on Sundays.
- Baseball and Softball divisional postseason tournaments may be shortened or cancelled.

What happens if the season is cancelled? Are refunds available?
Again, we want our players to play ball! Little League International, Lake Norman Little League, and our local municipalities are doing everything possible to make this happen. If the unfortunate circumstance arises that we must consider a season cancellation, the Board will determine at that time the appropriate method of crediting accounts or refunding registration fees, noting that costs have already been incurred with fields and uniforms.

We are all concerned regarding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and how it is impacting each of our lives. Our prayers are with our league community to remain grounded in faith rather than fear. This time shall pass, and our children will once again be running and playing on the ball field before long. Obviously, there are many factors that could change our plans. Our commitment is to keep you informed of the impacts on these plans as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Lake Norman Little League!
